According to the story, the Romanian Queen Maria received a pair of seals, which she later released in the waters of the Black Sea. They liked the rocks and caves around the village, which was then called Kalach Kyoy, and lived in them, having many offspring. For many years herds of seals could be seen from the shore. Later, for a number of reasons, the seals disappeared from these places and only the name of the village remained – Tyulenovo (The Bulgarian word for a seal is “tyulen”, thus the name of the village, which literally means “the one with the seals”).
